Hi, I'm Jennie!
I have been in the caregiver field for over 19 years and was a licensed home child care provider with the Region's Home Child Care Program for 9 years.
I have worked as a live-in nanny, a live-out nanny, and a Personal Support Worker for persons with disabilities.
My emergency first aid and CPR, including infant CPR, is kept up to date. Attending various professional development workshops and conferences keeps my skills fresh, such as childhood education, early literacy skills, special needs interests, behavior management, and resiliency training.
I was pleased to help pilot an initiative with the Region's child care program to help local caregivers develop standardized self-evaluation resources.
You may recognize me as one of the volunteers who helped found the Williamsburg Community Center. I served there for a few years in various volunteer positions: Secretary of the board, children's program coordinator, special events committee, general programming committee. I've also volunteered as Sunday School teacher, coordinator, and photographer at various local community events.
I have a smoke-free home, on a quiet side street close to the library, community centre, parks, and bus routes. We have a fenced backyard, and a friendly but shy 8 year old dog - a Sheltie.
Our neighbourhood is just a short drive from the Highland Hills Mall or the Fisher-Hallman expressway, in Kitchener. It is also a convenient drive from Ira Needles Blvd for those commuting to Waterloo, New Hamburg, or Stratford.
We enjoy laughing and learning together. Some examples of our activities:
-arts and crafts
-colouring & drawing
-letter & number tracing
-pre-literacy activities & games
-board games, home made file folder games
-gardening, grown from seedlings
-field trips to library, museum, seasonal and special events
-play dates at local community centers, parks, etc.
-homemade play dough
-plenty of outdoor time.
Our routine allows for the flexibility of spontaneous teachable moments, and child-centered learning opportunities.
We take time to smell the roses, or to check out any other curious things we might find on our adventures!
Parents often hear about it, as we like to bring our camera along for our excursions and email mom and dad some photos of our day's events.
The children are thrilled to see our little slide shows later in the day, and like to choose for themselves what their favourite photos are to show mom and dad.
You can learn more about me by reading the frequently asked questions (and answers) on my Childcare F.A.Q.'s page.
