I have been a licensed home child care provider for the Region's Home Child Care Program for 9 years, and have been in the caregiver field for over 15 years.
I have worked as a live-in nanny, a live-out nanny, and a Personal Support Worker for persons with disabilities.
I keep up to date with emergency first aid and CPR, including infant CPR, and regularly attend professional development workshops and conferences for childhood education, early literacy skills, special needs interests, behavior management, and resiliency training.
I am also a volunteer at our local church; there I help teach in our Sunday school program called Discovery Zone. I also volunteer as photographer at local community events, as well as organizing field trips with one of the local school support groups. I've recently cut back on the amount of time I spend volunteering in order to spend more time with my family.
I have a smoke-free home, on a quiet side street close to schools, parks, and bus routes. We have a fenced backyard.
Our neighbourhood is just a short drive from the Sunrise shopping centre or the Fisher-Hallman expressway, in Kitchener.
We enjoy laughing and learning together. Some of our regular activities include:
-arts and crafts
-colouring & drawing
-letter & number tracing
-pre-literacy activities & games
-music
-games
-stories
-educational activities
-fort building
-costume play
-nature walks
-scavenger hunts
-picnics
-children's garden
-field trips
-play dates
-baking
-homemade play dough
-water play
-plenty of outdoor time.
Our routine allows for the flexibility of spontaneous teachable moments, and child-centered learning opportunities.
We take time to smell the roses, or to check out any other curious things we might find on our adventures!
Parents often hear about it, as we like to bring our camera along for our excursions and email mom and dad some photos of our day's events.
The children are thrilled to see our little slide shows later in the day, and like to choose for themselves what their favourite photos are to show mom and dad.
You can learn more about me by reading the frequently asked questions (and answers) on my Childcare F.A.Q.'s page.
You can also check out some of our recent adventures by reading my child care Blog.
I have a webpage on this website for childcare references, if you'd like to check it out.
Here is a photo of my home where I do childcare, in the Laurentian Forest area of Kitchener, Ontario.
All the plants in my garden (a.k.a. 'the kid's garden') has been chosen by the children during our gardening field trips over the last few years, with the exception of a few plants that have been given to us by others.
My home is located on Peach Blossom Crescent, which is just off David Bergey Drive. The nearest intersections are Activa Ave and David Bergey Drive, or Ottawa Street South and David Bergey Drive.
There is a Google map of the area at the bottom of my Home page.
